DO U FEEL U GET TO EXPERIENCE THE DIFFRENCES IN SOCIETY BY GOING TO A HBCU, OR WOULD A MORE DIVERSE COLLEGE BENEFIT YOU MORE?

Eh, it doesn't matter either way. You go to school to learn.

People CLAIM that a diverse college benefits you because you get to socialize with people from different races and such -- apparently, thats what the real world is. BUT -- I believe that going to an HBCU as a african-american is something that we SHOULD do. It helps to build character, and sort of gives us more pride in the Black community. The white man goes back to his people - he's powerful, educated, and he's a winner in society - and he goes back and does better for HIS community. If more Blacks took pride in their community, and decided to go back and do good for it, eventually our race will come up in society and stop becoming negative statistics. Look at those black atheletes that got these big scholarships to go to these predominatly white schools - that school recieves money, and gets praised for the work of that athlete on the court or the field. WHAT IF that same athlete had decided to go to a good HBCU ... slowly, those HBCU's would step up their game, and god knows what else. I don't know, I just think theres a time where we have to give back to our community, because as much as people say RACE IS NOT AN ISSUE, it does play a part in everyday life. Get me? I just think that attending an HBCU is a step in that direction; it helps us uplift our community, in a way 'bond' with those in our race trying to do the same as we are... get me? The HBCU community is like a club, in my mind; it's an experience that you can't get anywhere else. Thats why I decided to go to HAMPTON UNIVERSITY instead of BARRY UNIV, where they offerred me that fat financial aid package lol

To be honest, I would suggest that all black students attend an hbcu at some point. It does help to focus you, create lifetime connections, and give you a sense of belonging. It's nice to have people around that are like you. However, I would not discount going to a larger, more mainstream college. As unfortunate as it is, some people will doubt your ability to perform just because you never went had that experience. It's sad, but true. But I would advise all black students to have the hbcu experience because there is nothing else like it.

FAMU was a Savior for me and I went to a predominate white Junior college and Spanish at the University of Texas Elpaso.

p.s. Either way You are making a great choice due to moving forward and the mutual Blessing You can be.
