Posted By: Tommie Mabry on July 10, 2020 Dr. Tommie Mabry > Author, Chief Executive Officer, Educator , Professional Speaker Dr. Tommie Mabry grew up in one of Jackson, MS roughest neighborhoods. Trouble followed him everywhere before and after fifth grade when he was arrested for breaking into the state fairgrounds. After that arrest, he was suspended or expelled from several schools due to his behavior. A judge once prophesized that in five years his attitude would either get him killed or incarcerated. Tommie grinned at the judge who did not know that the “monster” lurking within Tommie was fueled by the prophecy. Things started to change for Tommie when he joined an AAU basketball that traveled around the worI'd. He was the first person in his family to graduate from high school when he crossed the stage at Bailey Magnet in 2007. Although he was shot in the foot after skipping school during his senior year, God was merciful as Tommie healed and received a full basketball scholarship to Missouri State University. Tommie later received a BA cum laude in education from Tougaloo where he was elected Mister Tougaloo College in 2011, and received his MA in child development in 2017. After his undergraduate studies, he was hired as a teacher by the same Jackson Public School District that had suspended and expelled him many times during elementary and secondary education. Tommie was hired at Tougaloo College as the Director of Enrollment in 2016. Tommie has also published three books that targets all age groups and has completed his Doctorate Degree from Jackson State University in 2020 . He travels the world sharing his story to motivate and inspire others – He lives by the motto, “I cannot walk in my future with my foot in my past" Insert from Tommie Mabry Book A Dark Journey To A Light Future I knew since I was young I would get out. The judge told me that with my attitude I would be dead or locked up in five years, and I said "okay" with a grin. When I was released the next day, the judge did not know that he created a monster within me-his word fueled a fire inside me that was burning all along. God has ordained each of us for greatness. Unfortunately, the wiles of worldly convictions and possessions provide detours and stumbling blocks. This is the true story of the experiences of a young, African-American child, destined by God-fighting against the status quo of his violent and discouraging surroundings-to walk in the path of greatness. This is the story of Tommie Mabry-a boy who discovers that he can rise above his surroundings and situations to be the man that God intended him to be.
