15 Year Old to Attend Clark Atlanta Fall 2020

Posted By: Karen Pruitt on August 15, 2020 Hello. I’m reaching out to request if my daughter could be highlighted in your amazing magazine for her recent accomplishments. Please read Emory’s story on how she was able to overcome racial adversity in public high school and to go on to graduate at the age of15 with a 3.7 GPA. Thank you, Karen Pruitt Clark Atlanta accepts 15-Year-Old Emory Pruitt is a raving 15-year-old girl from Hendersonville TN with hopes and dreams that make others uncomfortable. She dares to succeed and defy the odds of life in her culture to become the greatest version of herself and pave the way for her siblings and others. Emory is now a graduate of Penn Foster High School with an astonishing 3.7 GPA. She has worked exceptionally hard to achieve good grades and maintained her focus in the midst of a very trying time in America with COVID-19 shifting her life, as she knew it and adjusting to the new normal. However, amid the pandemic Emory would stop at nothing to set goals and stay focused on achieving them for a greater end goal. Well she succeeded because August 6, 2020, Emory checked her emails as she normally does to make sure that she had not missed any important tasks only to discover that she had received an acceptance letter from Clark Atlanta University. Her mother states, “Words would not be able to describe how thrilled and excited she was to have come across a dream come true”. Emory’s road to success in school was not easy; it was actually quite the opposite. Emory encountered times in school where she had to defend her race amongst teachers and peers because she dreamed so big. The laughs at what she desired out of life did not stop her and she made a decision to do what others said and believed was impossible. Emory states, “It actually was the dedication and my family that pushed me each day, I should thank the people that doubted me that just made me work even harder, (with humor and a smile on her face)”. Her mother, Karen Pruitt, a single mother whom herself understand all too well the woes of life that her daughter faced. Moreover, as any mother would do, she began to search for options that would allow no distractions and no excuses that would prevent her from reaching her goals. Karen concluded that online classes would be the best thing for Emory to ensure her success. It pained Karen to have to resort to this, as no mother would want to seclude their child in these uncertain times but the pandemic made it easier to explain and defend, as Emory was not taking well to the emotional abuse that she was encountering at school. Karen states, “I know that this was the best choice to protect her and her feelings, no one should have to defend the color of their skin, no one.” Emory’s brother, Elijah Pruitt also received his acceptance letter to Clark Atlanta University as well. Yes, you can say, “it’s a family affair”. Emory and Elijah will attend Clark Atlanta University this fall. This story is a testament of a mother that sacrificed it all to give her children the best education and life that any mother could. However, it also is living proof that if you work hard, keep the faith, and stay focused on your goals you will succeed. When you face obstacles in life, you will have the strength to overcome anything. Emory’s success sends a message of hope and belief that anything is possible.
