Posted By: Alexzenia Davis on April 27, 2006 Once Again By Alexzenia Davis I can't stress how much your stereotypes nourish my behavior I'm mentally debating and constantly slaying the idea that I am so driven by your thoughts of me Can't you see that I am more than just the finger snapping tongue wagging individual that you wish I would portray Needless to say I do give in to the chaotic craze and from time to time throughout the day I may say and act out my part in the play and give you a reason to say what you say But what if I said make way The new and improved me is wanting to stay Pleading for a chance to disprove of that notion No longer having to fight with my unwanted emotions Controlling my desire to spit fire at every single thing I see to be wrong in the world Or this place Or my space Don't want to be the angry wild person that you claim to despise But am I completely wise How do I know that once I bite my tongue and grit my teeth I won't be the one you perceive as weak So truth be told I'm not sure of which path I should choose Where is the middle ground and what do I lose What do I gain Well thats simple... your acclaim As soon as I can grasp how to balance I'll change But for right now, I vouch for myself and for the person who can understand and extend a hand Not be too quick to dismiss and throw me to the wind Not to offend, but my defenses are up Because you labeled me And once again you win If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
