Posted By: Ashley Sutton on November 13, 2020 FAIRFIELD, ALABAMA –Miles College experienced a significant increase in new student enrollment for the 2020-2021 academic school year, the largest in 5 years. Enrollment numbers show an increase of 40 percent in the number of Miles College students attending college for the first time. As a result of the college welcoming its largest freshman class in the last 5 years, the college experienced a modest enrollment growth reversing a 5-year enrollment decline while navigating the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. Simultaneously, the college worked to improve the persistence of its returning students by retaining 75 percent of its eligible returning students. "Despite the challenges presented by COVID-19, we viewed this as an opportunity to emerge from a position of strength," said Bobbie Knight, Miles College President. "I commend my team for being forward-thinking and actualizing innovation in our efforts to showcase the college's mission," said Knight. The college implemented a comprehensive recruitment plan that included deploying an aggressive communications strategy in collaboration with Trellis Company and Federal Student Aid's Project Success Initiative and the diversification of the college's scholarship offerings. "President Knight set ambitious goals for the college, which includes modernizing the way we recruit, retain and graduate students," said Michael Johnson, Vice President of Enrollment Management. "This accomplishment is the first step in reinventing ourselves and positioning the college to competitively provide an accessible and affordable educational experience for all our students," said Johnson.
