  • The U.S. is becoming more diverse, with the white population declining to 57.8% in 2020.

  • 7.4% unemployment rate for those without a high school diploma, with the highest rate among Black individuals.
  • Foreign-born workers make up 17.4% of the U.S. workforce as of 2021.

5. Employment and Family Dynamics:
  • 21.5% of families had no employed members in 2021, rising to 23.4% for Black families.
  • 25.3% of heterosexual married-couple families rely on a single income.

Gender Diversity in the Workplace

6. Representation and Wage Gap:
  • Women comprise 47% of the workforce, with a gender pay gap of 83% compared to men.
  • Discrimination and sexual harassment are prevalent, with 78% of sexual harassment charges filed by women.

7. Leadership Disparities:

  • Only 10.6% of Fortune 500 CEOs are women.
  • Women face challenges in promotions, with 87 women promoted for every 100 men.

Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Workplace

8. Workforce Composition:

  • White individuals constitute 77% of the U.S. workforce, with underrepresentation of Black (13%) and Hispanic/Latine (18%) populations.
  • Only 6 Fortune 500 companies have a Black CEO.

9. Workplace Bias:

  • 24% of Black and Hispanic/Latine employees report workplace discrimination.
  • Candidates with "distinctively Black names" face challenges in the interview process.

  • Diverse companies have 2.5 times higher cash flow per employee.
  • Companies with diverse management teams experience a 19% increase in revenue compared to their less diverse counterparts as of 2018.

  • Inclusive company cultures lead to higher work engagement.

12. Employee Preferences and Discrimination:

  • Over half of U.S. employees have experienced or witnessed workplace discrimination.
  • 34% of employees leave a job due to unresolved harassment issues.
  • 76% of job seekers value a diverse workforce, and 80% want inclusive companies.
