On August 22nd, HBCU Connect partnered with Yelp's Diversity Recruitment team to host a highly successful virtual recruitment event, aimed at connecting top talent from HBCUs with exciting career opportunities at Yelp. The event, which kicked off at 6 PM Eastern Time, exceeded expectations in both attendance and engagement, proving the strong interest in careers with Yelp among our community.

Event Highlights:

  1. Record-Breaking Attendance:
Initially, we aimed to attract 30 candidates for this event. However, the response was overwhelming, with over 532 interested candidates signing up. Of these, 234 confirmed their participation, and at the event's peak, we had 105 attendees actively engaged in the virtual session.
  2. Engaging Q&A Session:
The interactive nature of the event was one of its standout features. Candidates asked a variety of insightful questions during the Q&A session, sparking valuable discussions about careers at Yelp, the company's culture, and opportunities for professional growth. The level of engagement from participants was truly impressive.
  3. Inspiring Keynote and Panel:
The event featured a powerful keynote speech from Lauren Spencer, who shared invaluable insights about working at Yelp and navigating the professional landscape. Additionally, Mo Sadique and Tyler Gassaway led an engaging panel discussion, offering diverse perspectives and advice to attendees.
  4. Successful Collaboration with Yelp:
We want to extend a special thank you to the team at Yelp for their incredible collaboration in bringing this event to life. Their commitment to diversity and inclusion was evident throughout the planning and execution stages, ensuring that the event was not only informative but also impactful for all participants.
