Why I Stopped Chasing Social Media Trends and Started Trusting God's Plan

Posted By: Ray Oster on August 08, 2025 Letting Go of the Numbers Game Let’s face it—Social Media Trends are hard to ignore. As a follower of Christ and a content creator, I once believed my message’s worth was tied to views, likes, and shares. If I posted something and didn’t get hundreds or thousands of hits, I felt like my work had no value. I got caught in a trap, measuring spiritual impact by social metrics. But deep down, I knew that wasn’t what God called me to do. It’s easy to confuse digital validation with divine purpose, especially when every platform promotes the idea that trending content equals success. But that’s not always the case, especially for faith-based creators. What I’ve come to realize is that the enemy uses Social Media Trends as a distraction—a way to shift our focus from obedience to outcome. And that shift leads many of us down a path where we serve algorithms instead of God’s assignments. But God’s voice is louder than any trend, and His purpose doesn’t require viral validation. Social Media Trends Don't Dictate Purpose The way social media platforms operate is no mystery. Algorithms decide who sees what, when, and how often. That means it’s not always about the quality of your message—it’s about what the algorithm thinks people want to see. So, even though I might have thousands of followers across platforms, only a small percentage actually sees my posts. This used to frustrate me. I'd think, What’s the point? But now I know better. I believe that when God gives me a message, He’ll make sure it reaches the right hearts—even if it’s just a handful of people. The truth is, the algorithm can’t override God. I refuse to let these digital barriers rob me of my peace or stop me from sharing my calling. There’s nothing more freeing than knowing the success of my content doesn’t depend on views, but on whether I’m being obedient to what God told me to say. And that shift in mindset has made all the difference. Don't Let Low Engagement Lie to You I remember getting discouraged every time I saw low numbers after posting something I thought was powerful. Paid ads always brought in better stats, but I couldn’t rely on that alone to determine the impact. Then something amazing started to happen—artists I had never spoken to before would reach out and say they had been following my content for years. I’d never seen their names in my notifications, never read a comment from them. But they were watching. They were listening. And most importantly, they were being impacted. That taught me something crucial: just because you don’t see engagement doesn’t mean engagement isn’t happening. People may be reading, absorbing, and growing in silence. If I had allowed the metrics to control my mission, I would’ve stopped a long time ago. But I thank God that I didn’t. I’ve come to learn that the true value of our content often shows up in ways the platforms can’t track. Spiritual Insight Through Digital Protection One day, I got a WordFence notification on my website—a basic security alert. But this time, it hit differently. I felt the Holy Spirit speak through it, reminding me that my content is covered—literally and spiritually. Not just the stuff on my website, but everything I post across all platforms. It’s under divine protection. I realized that maybe my content isn’t going viral because God doesn’t want it to. Maybe there’s a spiritual “fence” around my posts, not to restrict, but to protect—to ensure they reach only those they’re meant for. That blew my mind. Could it be that even I needed protecting from my own ambition? I had to pause and reflect. Was I getting tempted to create content just to go viral? Just to get paid? That’s not what God had planned. He provides for me in ways that don’t require compromising my purpose or chasing fleeting Social Media Trends. That realization reset everything. When Social Media Trends Steer You Off Purpose The world makes it so easy to fall into the “get-paid-to-post” trap. For a moment, I was tempted. Not because I didn’t love what I was doing, but because the promise of income was appealing. Still, I couldn’t shake the feeling that this wasn’t what God had in mind. My calling isn’t about likes or checks—it’s about ministry. It’s about using platforms to help others, not profit from popularity. Even when I promote other artists and see great results, I understand that my personal path is different. My low engagement is not a reflection of my content’s worth; it’s a signpost directing me back to God’s plan. I know that now. The temptation to ride the wave of trends is real, but so is the danger of getting lost in it. I was never meant to be just another content creator. I was chosen to serve a higher purpose, and that’s exactly what I intend to do. Small Numbers, Big Impact – Why I Ignore Social Media Trends Going viral might seem like the dream, but it can come with unintended consequences. If your post blows up, thousands of people might respond—and while that might look exciting, it can also be overwhelming. Especially when you’re trying to minister to people and respond thoughtfully. You can’t answer everyone. And in all the noise, you risk missing the one person who truly needed your message the most. That’s something I think about often. I’d rather have 10 deeply impacted people than 10,000 views with no connection. The fewer the viewers, the more intentional I can be. That’s why I don’t worry about low numbers anymore. I trust that God is guiding every click, every share, and every set of eyes that land on my content. It’s not about fame. It’s about faithfulness. And honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. A Better Standard for Measuring Success The world will always try to sell us its definition of success—more views, more likes, more followers. But for those of us walking with God, the standard is different. It’s about obedience, integrity, and impact. That’s what I focus on now. Every time I feel discouraged, I remember Proverbs 3:5-6—“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” His ways are higher than mine. So if a post flops in the world’s eyes but plants a seed in just one heart, it’s a win in God’s eyes. I keep optimizing, yes. I keep learning. But I’m no longer chasing what the algorithm loves. I’m chasing what God assigned me to share. That mindset shift has been incredibly freeing. Now, every piece of content I create is a step of faith, not a leap for likes. And I’m more confident than ever that I’m right where I need to be. Keep Planting, Keep Sowing I’ll continue to show up, keep planting seeds, and trust that the harvest will come in God’s timing. And when people ask where they can find authentic Christian music marketing services, I’ll proudly point them to Devine Jamz Gospel Network—because we serve a purpose that goes beyond algorithms. We serve a God who sees what’s done in secret and rewards faithfulness. Every post, every message, every blog is a seed sown for Kingdom impact. The results may not always show up in metrics, but they always show up in the Spirit. That’s what I hold on to. So, if you’re in this space and feeling discouraged by the numbers, don’t give up. Keep posting. Keep trusting. Keep being obedient. Because what you’re doing matters. And in the right hands—God’s hands—it will never be wasted.
