NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 4, 2026 – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), home to 11 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), has announced its weekly women's track and field honorees, and the awards showcase the impressive talents of student-athletes from two esteemed HBCU programs.

Howard University junior Yahnari Lyons was named the MEAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week, while Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) graduate student Faithlyn Irving earned the MEAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week distinction.

Key Takeaway: The MEAC, one of the premier NCAA Division I conferences for HBCUs, is showcasing the remarkable talents of student-athletes from Howard and UMES, two iconic HBCU institutions with rich athletic traditions.

Lyons, a standout from Howard's esteemed track and field program, put forth an impressive performance that earned her the weekly conference honor.

The junior sprinter's accomplishments on the track demonstrate the depth of talent within HBCU athletic departments and the immense potential of these student-athletes.

Meanwhile, Irving, a graduate student at UMES, solidified her status as one of the top field athletes in the MEAC with her award-winning efforts. The Hawks, known for their strong tradition in track and field, continue to produce exceptional student-athletes who are making waves in the conference and beyond.

"These weekly honors for Yahnari and Faithlyn are a testament to the incredible talent and dedication of our HBCU student-athletes," said MEAC Commissioner Sonja Stills. "The MEAC is proud to showcase the excellence of our programs and the positive impact they have on the HBCU community."

The recognition of Lyons and Irving by the MEAC not only highlights their individual accomplishments but also underscores the broader significance of HBCU athletics in the lives of students, alumni, and the communities they serve.
