LYNCHBURG, Va. (Feb. 14, 2026) — The Morgan State Bears men's track and field team capped off a successful regular-season indoor campaign this past weekend at the Darius Dixon Meet, hosted by Lynchburg University. The competition served as the Bears' final tune-up ahead of next week's highly anticipated Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Championships.

The Bears' performance at the Darius Dixon Meet was nothing short of impressive, as they showcased their depth and talent across a variety of events. Sophomore sprinter Jamal Johnson led the way, capturing first-place finishes in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash, solidifying his status as one of the conference's premier sprinters.

In the distance events, junior Khalil Watkins continued his stellar season, winning the mile run with a time of 4:10.23, cementing his position as a top contender for the MEAC title in the event.

The Bears also found success in the field events, with senior jumper Deon Rodgers taking top honors in the long jump with a leap of 7.42 meters.

Key Takeaway: The Morgan State Bears showcased their well-rounded talent and depth across multiple events, positioning themselves as a formidable force heading into the MEAC Indoor Championships.

Head coach Alicia Williams was pleased with her team's performance, noting the importance of this meet as a final opportunity to fine-tune their preparations for the conference championships.

"I'm really proud of the way our team competed this weekend. We had some outstanding individual efforts, and this meet allowed us to identify areas where we can continue to improve as we get ready for the MEAC championships. Our student-athletes have worked hard all season, and I'm confident they'll be ready to showcase their talents on the biggest stage."

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference is a historically Black college and university (HBCU) conference that has long been a hub for athletic excellence and pride within the HBCU community. The upcoming indoor championships will be a testament to the dedication, hard work, and talent of these student-athletes, who represent the rich tradition and competitive spirit that defines HBCU sports.

As the premier online community for HBCU alumni and supporters, HBCUConnect.com is excited to follow the Bears' journey as they look to capture the MEAC Indoor title. The success of Morgan State's track and field program not only reflects the institution's commitment to athletic excellence but also serves as a source of pride and inspiration for the entire HBCU community.
