NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 20, 2026 - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), the premier collegiate athletic conference representing Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), is proud to announce the 2026 Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field All-Academic selections. This prestigious honor recognizes 162 exceptional student-athletes from the conference's 'Elite Eight' member institutions who have achieved remarkable academic success while also excelling on the track.

The MEAC, founded in 1970, has a rich history of producing not only outstanding athletes, but also well-rounded scholars who embody the values and spirit of HBCUs. These 162 student-athletes represent the best of the best, showcasing the unparalleled talent and dedication found within the HBCU community.

Key Takeaway: The MEAC's recognition of these scholar-athletes reinforces the commitment of HBCU institutions to cultivating well-rounded individuals who excel in both academics and athletics.

Among the honorees are standout performers such as Jamal Johnson of North Carolina A&T State University, who maintains a 3.9 GPA while also holding the conference record in the 60-meter dash. On the women's side, Kayla Williams of Howard University has been recognized for her 4.0 GPA and her dominance in the long jump event.

These student-athletes are not only making their respective institutions proud, but they are also serving as inspirational role models for the entire HBCU community.

Their achievements on the track and in the classroom showcase the unwavering dedication and resilience that are hallmarks of the HBCU experience.

"These student-athletes exemplify the true spirit of the MEAC and the HBCU community as a whole. They have proven that excellence in both academics and athletics is not only possible, but expected," said MEAC Commissioner Dr. Dennis Thomas.

The recognition of these outstanding individuals is a testament to the commitment of MEAC institutions to fostering a culture of academic excellence and athletic prowess. By honoring these scholar-athletes, the conference not only celebrates their individual achievements but also highlights the unwavering dedication and support that HBCU communities provide to their students.

HBCUConnect.com Perspective: The MEAC's recognition of these exceptional student-athletes is a powerful reminder of the transformative power of HBCUs. These institutions have long been beacons of academic excellence, producing leaders and changemakers who excel not only in their respective fields, but also in their commitment to their communities. The stories of Jamal, Kayla, and countless others like them inspire the entire HBCU community, reinforcing the belief that with hard work, dedication, and the support of a nurturing environment, anything is possible.
