Six Flags bans Natrual Hairstyles

Six Flags bans Natrual Hairstyles
Posted By: Monisha X on June 25, 2006

In the past couple of years many African Americans have been embracing the natural hair trend. Many women are saying no to relaxers in exchange for locs, twist, and braids. Cornrows and locs have always been a popular hairstyle among African American males. Despite the popularity of these styles in the African American community not everyone is so receptive.
This spring Six Flags America, located in Largo, Md. Announced a ban on locs, braids, and cornrows.

In their new employee handbooks these hairstyles are described as “Extreme”, and inappropriate. After the ban employees were told to cut their hair off or go home. One female employee with locs wore a wig to work, in order to comply with the new policy. The amusement park management informed her that a wearing a wig was not complying with company policy because it wasn’t her natural hair.
The amusement park staff has decided to contest the ban citing cultural insensitivity and discrimination. The new General manger for Six Flags America, Terry Prather, has denied the allegations of discrimination.

They always hating on us! They dont want us to be superior so they badger us in the public to make us feel inferior. We don't have to look alike! They want us to all look the same (almost like in Lincoln days) but this is a new century and we are entitled to wear our hair how we want it, even though we may get ranked on for it.LOL Naw but seriously, as long as they have their hair up, I don't see the problem.Starbucks has a dress code but to avoid having my hair smelling like spoil milk and old coffee beans, I wrap my hair up, put a ban danner around it, and put on m Starbucks hat. They don't say anything because they know how it feel.It does look kina ghetto but at least it's neat and they don't hate, you feel me.Six Flags need to tighten up and stop hating.
