NCCU Eagles Basketball Looks to Finish Strong at Home Before MEAC Tournament
Posted By: Will Moss on March 01, 2026

DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Eagles men's and women's basketball teams are gearing up for their final home doubleheader of the regular season on Thursday, March 5th at McDougald-McLendon Arena. With the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament just around the corner, these games hold significant importance for the Eagles as they look to build momentum heading into postseason play.

The NCCU women's team will tip-off first at 5:30 p.m. against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats. The Eagles, led by head coach Trisha Stafford-Odom, currently hold a 10-15 overall record and are 6-8 in conference play. They'll be looking to close out the regular season strong and secure a favorable seed in the upcoming MEAC Tournament.

Immediately following the women's game, the NCCU men's team will take the court at 7:30 p.m. against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats. The Eagles, under the guidance of head coach LeVelle Moton, boast an impressive 16-13 overall record and an 11-3 MEAC record, placing them near the top of the conference standings.

A win in this final home game would solidify their position as a top contender for the MEAC title.

Key Takeaway: Both the NCCU men's and women's basketball teams are primed for a strong finish to their regular season campaigns, with the potential to make deep runs in the upcoming MEAC Tournament.

The NCCU Eagles have a rich history within the HBCU community, with the men's basketball program having won 9 MEAC regular-season titles and 8 MEAC Tournament championships. The women's team has also been a consistent force in the conference, having won 4 MEAC regular-season titles and 3 MEAC Tournament championships.

"Our teams have worked hard all season to put themselves in a great position heading into the MEAC Tournament," said NCCU Athletic Director Ingrid Wicker McCree. "We're excited to see our Eagles give it their all in front of their home crowd one last time before the postseason begins."

HBCUConnect.com, the premier online community for HBCU alumni and supporters, recognizes the significance of these final home games for the NCCU Eagles. As a leading voice for the HBCU community, we celebrate the rich tradition and excellence of NCCU's basketball programs, and we encourage all HBCU fans to tune in and support the Eagles as they look to secure their place in the MEAC Tournament.
