Albany State Golden Rams Shine in Tough SIAC Conference Matchup with Spring Hill Badgers

MOBILE, Ala. — The Albany State Golden Rams, representing one of the premier Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the country, recently traveled to face the Spring Hill College Badgers in a highly anticipated three-game conference series at Stanky Field. Despite the series ultimately concluding in a 1-2 decision, the Golden Rams showcased their offensive firepower, depth on the mound, and continued growth as a program, delivering a strong performance that resonates with the HBCU community.

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), which both Albany State and Spring Hill belong to, is a NCAA Division II conference consisting of 14 HBCUs located primarily in the Southeastern United States. The SIAC is known for its rich tradition of academic excellence and athletic prowess, providing a platform for HBCU student-athletes to excel and represent their institutions with pride.

In the series opener, the Golden Rams fell to the Badgers by a score of 4-2, despite a valiant effort. However, the team quickly bounced back in Game 2, delivering a dominant 9-3 victory that demonstrated their offensive capabilities and resilience. The Golden Rams' standout performance was led by a number of key contributors, including sophomore outfielder Malik Dungey, who went 3-for-5 at the plate with a home run and 3 RBIs.

"Our team showed a lot of heart and determination in that Game 2 victory," said Albany State head coach Scot Hemmings.



"We knew we had to respond after the tough loss in the opener, and the guys stepped up in a big way to showcase the depth and talent we have on this squad."

In the series finale, the Golden Rams fell short against the Badgers, but the team's resilience and growth throughout the weekend did not go unnoticed. Sophomore pitcher Jayden Thomas delivered a strong outing, striking out 8 batters and showcasing his potential as a key contributor for Albany State moving forward.
