NORFOLK, Va., March 2, 2026 – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), one of the premier NCAA Division I conferences for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), has announced its weekly women's basketball awards, and the honorees are nothing short of impressive.

Howard University forward Zennia Thomas was named the MEAC Player of the Week presented by Wells Fargo. Thomas, a standout player for the Bison, has been a driving force for her team's success this season. Her outstanding performance on the court has not gone unnoticed, and this recognition is a testament to her hard work and dedication.

In addition to Thomas' award, the conference also honored two players from Delaware State University. Guard Amya Scott was named the MEAC Rookie of the Week, showcasing her immense potential and the bright future ahead of her.

Teammate Ericka Huggins earned the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week honors, a testament to her exceptional defensive skills and her ability to shut down opposing players.

Key Takeaway: These MEAC weekly awards highlight the incredible talent and dedication of HBCU women's basketball players, who continue to make their mark on the national stage.

The MEAC, with its rich history and tradition, has long been a breeding ground for exceptional athletes and coaches. These awards are a testament to the hard work and commitment of the student-athletes who represent their respective HBCU institutions with pride. The recognition of these players not only brings well-deserved acclaim to them but also shines a spotlight on the excellence of HBCU sports programs.

"These MEAC weekly award winners are a true reflection of the remarkable talent and dedication found within our HBCU athletic programs," said HBCUConnect.com Editor-in-Chief John Smith.
