Posted By: Will Moss on March 25, 2026

The Langston University Lions are one win away from making HBCU history as they battle for their first-ever men's basketball national championship tonight at 7 p.m. CT in Kansas City, Missouri.

This marks the second time in three seasons that the Oklahoma HBCU has reached the NAIA national championship game, demonstrating the program's sustained excellence on the national stage. Standing in their way is Freed-Hardeman University of Tennessee, the same team that denied Langston the crown in the 2024 NAIA title game.

Key Takeaway: Langston University has the opportunity to capture its first-ever NAIA men's basketball national championship tonight in a rematch against Freed-Hardeman, seeking redemption after falling to the same opponent in the 2024 title game.

Clutch Tournament Run

The Lions' path to the championship has been nothing short of remarkable. Entering the tournament as a No. 4 seed, Langston has displayed resilience and composure throughout their postseason run, highlighted by several close victories that showcased their championship mettle.

After securing a pair of home victories against Bethel (Tennessee) and Eastern Oregon, the Lions pulled off a stunning upset in the Sweet 16, defeating No.

1 seed Oklahoma-Wesleyan 56-55
. The magic continued as Langston held off Rocky Mountain (Montana) 60-55 before advancing to the championship with a thrilling 72-69 overtime victory over Ave Maria in the Fab Four.

Championship Game Details

Tonight's showdown carries extra weight as a rematch of last year's championship, where Freed-Hardeman emerged victorious. The Lions will look to turn the tables and bring home the program's first national title to Langston, Oklahoma.

Fans eager to witness this historic moment can tune in through multiple viewing options:
