Grammy-Nominated Artist Pierce Freelon Celebrates Black Joy, Culture, and Confidence with New Children
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on June 10, 2026

As conversations around identity, belonging, and positive representation continue to shape our communities, Grammy-nominated artist, author, and Afrofuturist creator Pierce Freelon is offering something powerful for the next generation.

Arriving on Juneteenth during Black Music Month, Black Boy Glow is a vibrant new children's album created to celebrate, affirm, and uplift Black boys through music, storytelling, and culture. The project delivers a joyful soundtrack while also encouraging confidence, self-worth, emotional growth, and meaningful connection.

Known for blending creativity, education, and cultural storytelling, Freelon has built a reputation for producing family-friendly content that speaks directly to Black experiences. With Black Boy Glow, he creates a musical space where young Black boys can see themselves reflected in positive, inspiring, and authentic ways.

The album opens with its title track, "Black Boy Glow," featuring Admin Earth, a celebration of gratitude and the everyday moments that make childhood magical. Throughout the project, Freelon explores themes of self-care, mentorship, integrity, aspiration, and community through engaging songs that families can enjoy together.

One standout track for the HBCU community is "HBCU," a joyful tribute to Historically Black Colleges and Universities and the legacy of excellence they represent. The song introduces young listeners to the pride, opportunity, and cultural significance of HBCUs, planting seeds of inspiration for future generations.

Additional highlights include:

* "Smooth and Silky Durag" featuring Fyütch, which transforms a daily self-care ritual into a celebration of confidence and pride.

* "Whatup Unc" featuring .zone, honoring the uncles, mentors, and community leaders who help guide young people through life.
* "Rite of Passage" featuring The Okee Dokee Brothers, exploring growth and manhood through collective support and mentorship.
* "Word is Bond," emphasizing integrity, accountability, and character.
* "Neil deGrasse Tyson" featuring Mega Ran, celebrating curiosity, achievement, and Black excellence in STEM.
* "Law of Attraction" and "Whoopty Woo," which encourage self-belief, patience, and personal growth.

More than just a children's album, Black Boy Glow serves as an affirmation of Black childhood and the communities that nurture it. Through laughter, rhythm, storytelling, and love, Freelon delivers a project that families can enjoy while reinforcing positive messages that resonate far beyond the music.
