New Language - Black Venacular - Ebonics

New Language - Black Venacular - Ebonics

While I am no prude, nor am I an authority on the English language, I wish to express my desire to see all persons, African American or not, use proper English. While knowing and utilizing good English may not guarantee you a good job; not knowing it will certainly decrease your chances to progress. So as you use the new slang, some of which is derogatory to the African American culture and race, stay mindful of where you aspire to go in life. Slang does not make you cool. Being cool is a state of mind that does not have to be validated by others. That which you practice the most will eventually come out, and in some cases, it is often at the most inopportune time.

AMEN to that...I can't stand when I am trying to have a conversation with someone and then I have to hear all the extra stuff or get the "slang" translated. It can be irritating and some people don't know how to transition (when to use it--around your friends and when not to---in class, on a job interview, etc.) Good Point.

Danesha, I thank you for you comments. And you are correct. I have no doubt that you will go far in life. Good luck with that sports team.

That's a great point. The other day I was in the DFAC (dining facility AKA chow hall) when one of the fellas I was with said the "n-bomb." I turned to him and said, you know we can't use that term in public (in other words, only amongst one another especially in a military environment). Now, I am not saying I support the word in any fashion, but I am understanding enough to realize that some will continue to use the word as a term of endearment. However, there is a time and a place for everything and that was definitely not the time nor place. You would never catch me drop the "n-bomb" on accident or purposefully, becauseI don't use the term. Now you might catch me swearing once in a blue moon *cough you didn't hear that cough* LOL

Bro Horne, at least you are honest about your use of the word and there is no hippocisy when you tell the truth. You were right on target with what you said to your partner. When brothers stand up collectively we can change the world. Keep your conciousness and share it with others. Thanks for your response.
