overalls went out when segregation began

ummm, how should I BEGIN to phrase this....your comment could be considered very ignorant for a few reasons. For one, segregation, at least where African-Americans are concerned, "began" with the first slave hitting American soil, and hasn't ended yet. Overalls, if one could get them, was the clothing of choice because they are durable, wash well, and allowed one the ability to carry everything they needed with them. It was also an "entire" piece of clothing...so if the person wearing them couldn't afford to wear something underneath? They were still considered fully clothed. A fine point to consider when you think about what was "really" going on prior to, during, and quite frankly, after the civil rights movement of the '50's and '60's. And, if you know anything about Mardi Gras, it's not the place to look cute and kick it at the same time. You gotta "strap your boots on, in case it gets deep" as we used to say on the yard, so being cute is not the priority, gettin' your party on is. It may be a fashion faux paux in your eyes, but we kicked it, AND, they are way loose on my now, even after having a baby, and a LIFE!!!!
