Let's Go back o Africa

Let
Posted By: camille c on January 25, 2007

Why not travel forward toward Africa?
The back to Africa movement has always yes always been a concept in the African American struggle for equal rights. Paul Cuffe was the first, Marcus Garvey and last Stokely Carmicheal(Kwame Ture) all beleiving that for the Black to be sucessful, for the black man to enjoy full citizenship for the black man to enjoy econonmic sucess he must do it in the land of his orgin Africa.
Despite what many may think many Africans in America were exicted by the idea ,some were afraid and thought Africa a distant land and thought it better to remain here for it was our sweat in blood thought the built this country. Which is very true but clearly the black man is in a very bad state and has been for a very long things in my eyes are'nt getting better but rather worst.

Many Africans not just in the America but in the whole disaspora deny any connect to Africa they see themselves as separte entities from Africans in Africa? Why are we the only be to do that? Cubans never deny Cuba, Japanese people never deny Japan, Jewish people never deny Isreal, Korean never deny Korea, Irish people never deny Irealand infact they make an effort to visit the country of their orgin they still hang up their country flags in their home they still eat their native food, some even still speak their native tongue.
but what do we do?
Deny Africa when clearly there is something. has to be the Europeans keep flooding onto it's land. Arabs are also migrating on to it's land. but not us we are too short sight so brain washed we can't see it's wealth. We don't want to be seen as African for they are ugly and Eurpean attactiveness is what is beautiful not the features that are clearly our own
but than again what is one to expect from a people who don't support their own colleges, frown upon them and deny them claiming that they can't educate effectivly yet before your main stream colleges began to accpect blacks it was your HBCU's that educated blacks but not only educated they empowered them. Look back on history almost very Black influenctly person attended an HBCU... Thurgood Marshall, Martin Luther King, Langston Hughes, Booker T Washington, W.E.B Dubois etc. So if the schools were worthy enough to educate these great men why not you ?
because black people no longer want to be Negro or African they want to be American. but dose american mean sucessful dose it even mean content, surely it can't mean safety or respect so why stay ?

I truly agree Camille and I wrote in my journal about something similar to what you wrote about. I feel as though African Americans need to bond together like the latinos, whites, etc.
