I have been on a journey for about three years working on a project that involves African Amercan men in the lucrative world of horse racing. The history is deep in the fact that a lot of thoroughbred industry history got its start in my alma mater's city of Nashville, Tennessee. While I will use this blog as a way of enlightening everyone, what drew me to this project outside of my client, Michael McBride, whose art career I manage these days, was the fact that these men were mere teenage slave boys, 13-21 years of age, but were doing the deeds of men. My quest is to truly reattach our sense of history as men to these, our ancestors, in the hopes that we can heal the pain we have as African American men in this country and begin to put our family unit back together and stop using excuses as to why that cannot happen.
