Being A Black Man

Being A Black Man
Posted By: dominic purnell on January 06, 2008

Being a black man ain't easy in these days and times. I mean just like Martin Luther King Jr led the way before us to be great men and made it easy there are those who make it hard like O.J. Simpson . I mean i'm not tryin to put anyone down but people only judge you on what someone before you did. Example your dad was no good people tend to put you in that catergory too. What does being a "Black Man" mean actually well it should be the same as what a so called white man or hispanic man means. Pride in who you are. Showin off our cars and houses and wives isn't showin off our pride. I mean what can black people say we're known for. I don't mean inventions and things made up but ethically. We know white men save money and build a future for their kids making them better people in society.Hispanic men teach their kids hwo to work hard and make it in these days and times. But when it comes to black men we teach our kids how to do what we do. NOTHING.

Now don't misinterpret what i'm sayin I'm talkin about the majority. Well I mean if the shoe fits then go head and try it and buy it.If not then help someone you know does. Also we don'thelp each other. Teachin your son to be a playaand hustle only gets you a few places in jail,a baby's daddy, std infested and my least favorite dead. But one thing that does fix the problem is an education. Trust me I can speak. I may not be in school right now but i'm takin online classes. I mean hey being in Iraq has it's downs. If i could be I would. BUt an education builds a foundation. No matter if you a baller or in the music industry. The only way to make it is an education. Being black should mean more than bein a nigga or homie It should mean creatin a pathway for the younger because unless you can live til 200+ then someone else be there to take your spot. Being a black man should mean pride in bein apart of a brotherhood that no matter where you are people can say you stand for someone and what that means something that will change the world.

I think that many Black fathers try to raise strong young men, but they don't necessarily stand in the spotlight... because they're too busy raising strong young men.

I agree that far too many of us have neglected our responsibilities to our families and our community. It's up to us, as young college educated men, to make up for lost momentum.

When will we, as Brothers, be able to sit down in a room and talk about fatherhood, or how to save and invest? If we can get together to play Madden & watch BET, why not do something that matters?

It's not always a matter of what we do, but what we don't do. Almost all of us know at least one friend or relative who's kids aren't being raised right, or are headed for trouble. How many of us will step in and take the lead?

It's up to us as individuals to distinguish ourselves before we can expect to prosper as a nation.

the purpose of an education is just that to have one to be smart to live. you don't need an education to make money. trust me i know.without knowledge we are dead and as you can see the blackman is dyin rapidly but in order to restore us all we need is to reach out and help a younger brother. Because if you get them early they'll live later.

great points. If more people could realize these things, I believe there would be fewer problems. Great post.
