A major problem!

Posted By: Latosha Tyler on May 18, 2005 I'm a junior in high school. At school, I'm taking a psychology class, and I love it. However, I like psychiatry(psychoanalysis), but in order to actually be up and coming I have to go to college for 12 YEARS!! That's only the beginning! I also want to be an actress/model/ballet dancer. Where would those fit in? Does anyone have advice? HoneyBun i dunno who told you that you have to be in school for 12 years..because I am planning to major in Psychology too and to get a good paying job you have to have a PhD and you have to go to school for 8 years for that...so if you planning to fail a couple times..you only need 8 years...and see you are only a junior..so by the time you get into college and into some classes you will know exactly what you are good at. So keep ya head up and reach for your goals. God Bless

They'll fit in as hobbies. 12 years...where will the rest of your life fit in? I'm not saying this to be discouraging either, but rather to be realistic. you're probably more than capable of achieving whatever you set out to do, but your values and want sfrom life are gonna be alot different at 31-years-of-age then they are now while you're 17. 'Cause one day you'll want a man and a family- and you'll want to spend time with them. God has a way of turning your "plans" into scarifices. Peter and Andrew planned on being fishermen as did James and John, but they all had to abandon what they thought would be their "life's works" to do the Lord's will. youy just make sure that whatever you do fit's into His will, and some times the things that fit are asked to dropped right when you think they're starting to bear fruit. Let me stop being so "Deep". take the advice of the 2 young lady's above me. Don't burn yourself out trying to do too much, and keep your mind open because you might find something else you like that either ties into Psychology or let's you apply some things that you learn from it. Plus I graduated with 3 bachelors degrees in 4 years and failed a few classes along the way (raising kids takes it's toll)...so I don't think it'll take you that long to get a PhD in Psych. 8 years sounds a lot closer.
