Being a Christian today (cont'd)
|
Posted By: Jay Bastien on February 11, 2005 So previously, it was established that a Christian and a Disciple is the same thing. Now if you know anything about the Bible, then you know of Jesus' twelve disciples. They were dedicated to the cause, and followed God, does that mean as Christians, we are supposed to be as dedicated as they were, even more? Well, my personal opinion is yes. Question: "Where did Christians/Disciples come from?" The ORIGINAL twelve disciples, did not just walk up to Jesus and say "make me a disciple." The were called. Let's refer to the Bible for proof. "18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” - Matthew 4:18-19 (New International Version) Before the disciples were called by Jesus, there was a lot of thought and prayer put into the decision. "Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. {13} And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He CHOSE twelve whom He also named apostles" (Luke 6:12-13 NKJV). "For many are called, but few are chosen." (Matthew 22:14 KJV). Being that we were not around at the time of Jesus, we are not made into Christians the same way that the ORIGINAL disciples were. Once more I don't want to overwhelm you, think much on what you have just read. Search the scriptures yourself. Don't just take my word for it. I will add more on the topic, at a later date.
