Make a Difference in Public Health through a Paid Internship

Are you interested in pursuing a career in public health and making a difference in reducing ethnic/racial behavioral health disparities? Here's an exciting opportunity for a full-time paid internship in public health in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

The Washington Center has partnered with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to administer an internship program specifically designed to equip graduate students and recent undergraduates from underrepresented populations to work in the public health field.

We have an urgent need for full-time interns for the spring 2022 SAMHSA Internship Program. This is an exceptional opportunity for graduate students, undergraduates and recent graduates (within 12 months of graduation) to gain practical experience and to make a difference through an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. 

The Priority Consideration Deadline for the spring internship program is 10/20/2021. The Final Deadline is 10/27/2021. 

This is a fully funded program sponsored by SAMHSA, which provides a stipend. You will work full-time (40 hours/week) for the duration of your internship. The SAMHSA Internship Program is offered for the spring, summer and fall semesters. Due to COVID-19 considerations, the 2022 iteration of the program may be virtual.

To be eligible to participate you must meet the following criteria:

• Be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident (I-151 or I-551). (Individuals on temporary visas are not eligible. Additionally, individuals must be authorized or eligible to work in the United States by law.)
• Be enrolled in a degree-seeking program (BA/BS, Masters, JD, MD, or Ph.D.) at an accredited higher education institution OR have graduated within 12 months of your internship participation
• Have completed your freshman year of college before the internship begins
• Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
• Be able to work full-time (40 hours per week) for the duration of the internship
• Have a confirmed interest in working with SAMHSA
