The Division of Biostatistics is dedicated to the development of novel statistical and biostatistical methodologies, conducting substantive collaborative research, training the next generation of biostatisticians through it's M.S. and Ph.D. graduate degrees and also helping to train medical and public health professionals. Current areas of focus include methods development in high dimensional modeling, Bayes computing, mixed models, model selection, and collaborations in a variety of different areas across the medical school including cancer, HIV/AIDS, aging, community-based research, etc. Division faculty are internationally known for their contributions to the field. There is an expectation of developing a sustainable program of research via extramural funding. The faculty member will teach and mentor in the graduate programs in Biostatistics and Public Health.

As leader of the Biostatistics Core of the SCCC, the faculty member will conduct his/her own methodological research, and should have the ability to:

Lead the Biostatistics Shared Resource of the SCCC. This entails personnel management, budget management and overall administrative oversight of the Shared Resource. Make scientific breakthroughs in the development of new statistical and/or computational methods -with a focus on cancer related applications- as evidenced by peer reviewed publications in leading journals, book chapters and books. Obtain (or ideally continue to obtain) external funding including (but not limited to) from NIH, NSF, CDC, and DARPA. Represent the Cancer Center, Department/Division, and the University at professional meetings in local communities, nationally, and across the globe. Participate in the Cancer Center Junior Faculty Development Program. Assist in the recruitment of the best and brightest doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows and mentor them throughout their years of study. Obtain external funding for their support while working on research projects under the faculty member's supervision. Mentor students in the MPH, MSPH and PhD graduate programs within the Department with innovative courses created to engage the students in strategic thinking. Collaborate with other faculty to obtain research funding for trans-disciplinary research. May serve on various SCCC, Departmental and/or Institutional committees. Provide national or international service to the profession.

Qualifications:

  • PhD degree with specific graduate training in biostatistics, statistics or related discipline. Evidence of high-impact publications with a clear cancer focus.
  • Effective oral and written communications including teaching experience, presentation at scientific meetings, and a significant publication record in peer-reviewed high impact journals
  • Demonstrated ability to lead innovative research projects to successful conclusions
  • Evidence of being able to secure and sustain extramural funding for a program of research.
