POSITION HIGHLIGHTS This position is full-time, following a first shift schedule, 40 hours per week, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday. Correctional facilities have unique medical records needs, with a specific concentration on requesting records from community providers and preparing records for external sharing, following process, policy and privacy guidelines set by statute and agency policy. As a Medical Records Specialist with the DOC, some of the responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to: Maintaining a file of medical records such as daily admissions and discharges, daily census, case histories, results of diagnostic tests, signed releases of information, medical summaries and abstracts; Inspecting reports and records for omissions and errors; Preparing statistical reports on such matters as classification of disease, laboratory, dental, X-ray and physiotherapy activities; Performing related duties as required. NOTE: This recruitment may be used to fill vacancies throughout State correctional facilities as openings occur at any of our 14 locations. ABOUT US The Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC) is a diverse agency with a wide variety of employees from Correction Officers, to Educators, to Managers and Skilled Professionals. The Connecticut Department of Correction is the agency responsible for corrections in the U.S. state of Connecticut. The agency operates 13 correctional facilities. It has its headquarters in Wethersfield. The DOC protects public safety by ensuring offenders serve their sentences of imprisonments in facilities that are safe, human, and provide re-entry programming. The State of Connecticut, Department of Correction is a unified system; all sentenced and un-sentenced offenders are supervised by the DOC. The Department also provides supervision for offenders on parole, community release, and other discretionary release programs. The Corrigan Correctional Institution and the Radgowski Correctional Institution were consolidated in May 2001 as the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center. This facility confines both pretrial and sentenced offenders. It serves superior courts in Danielson, New London, Norwich and Windham. Programs offered to offenders in the Corrigan Correctional Institution included an extensive anger management curriculum for inmates with a history of violent tendencies. A close monitoring unit is maintained in order to segregate those offenders who have been classified as members of gangs. In this unit, cultural and gang awareness programs are offered to encourage offender insight into the negative aspects of gang participation. A full complement of educational and addiction services programming is also offered. The Brooklyn Correctional Institution endeavors to hold offenders accountable, while offering developmental opportunities through sound educational, vocational and cognitive programming that subsequently facilitates successful reintegration into the community. The Brooklyn Correctional Institution is a level 3 medium-security facility. It offers extensive programming to assist offenders with the successful law abiding return to the community. The programming includes: Educational Services with GED, English as a Second Language, and Special Education; Vocational Programs, Business Education, Computer Skills; Literacy Volunteers; Sex Offender Programming; Anger Management and Substance Abuse Programming. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE Four (4) years of experience in the maintenance of medical records and preparation of statistical reports. Contact Information
