Life & Professional Aspirations:

In the United States, only 14% of the Engineering field is represented by women. This is a huge deficit compared to other fields of study such as Education, Nursing, and other Social Sciences. I must ask myself why? I have always been more interested in Science and Math than other courses. My high school studies and Engineering college courses have shown me just how severe the gender gap really is. I am one of three young ladies that chose to pursue this level of coursework. My teachers tend to lean on men for deeper Engineering discussions and naturally expect them to excel. Many may not see this as an issue, but I do. My goal is to become a successful Chemical Engineer. I strive so hard for success because I want to be the best role model for other girls. I want young girls to grow up and see more people like themselves and feel that she can do anything she sets her mind to, regardless of her gender.
