About   (request update)
Hi!
I am Jay'a (Jay-yuh) Ricard. I'm a senior at Klein Cain High School and will be attending the amazing Florida A&M University in the fall! I've been a member of my school's Varsity cheer team for 4 years and actively participate in NHS, SNHS, the Dental Association club, and the Black Student Union (BSU) Club. Passionate about healthcare, I've recently become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT), and am a member of my school's Diagnostic Practicum. I also take an interest in technology, specifically software improvement. With my skills and hobbies, I plan to become an Orthodontist, open my own practice, and serve
Current Whereabouts:
Passionate about healthcare, I've recently become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician, and am a member of my school's Diagnostic Practicum. I also take an interest in technology, specifically software improvement. With my skills and hobbies, I plan to become an Orthodontist, open my own practice, and serve my community! During my personal time, I enjoy painting flowers while at the park, workingout, and organizing.
Life & Professional Aspirations:
In dentistry, measuring pain and tolerance is crucial to ensuring patients’ well-being and achieving accurate results and proper care. My goal as an aspiring orthodontist is to earn a master’s degree in a health-related field, open my own practice, and improve care for the Black community, especially by ensuring that no patient’s pain goes unnoticed or unacknowledged. The mouth is vital, as many nerves are located in the jaw and teeth, and diseases or conditions are often first detected through oral health. Despite this, with at least one in five Black people experiencing anxiety about medical care, many avoid the dentist altogether. Additionally, much of the Black community lacks access to insurance that covers oral health care. This avoidance increases the risk of long-term damage and severe pain. When Black women’s pain is not taken seriously, the likelihood of unnecessary harm only grows. In my practice, I promise every individual who seeks care that they will never leave in worse condition. Instead, they will walk out educated, supported, and equipped with preventive care and guidance to maintain or improve their teeth's health.
