Charmin A. Bates is an advocate for young professionals and educational development;
Charmin A. Bates has a passion for fashion retail and helping the underserved population within her community. She received her Bachelor degree in Fashion Merchandising and minor in Business Administration at Tennessee State University (TSU) in 2009. Charmin also participated in the inaugural class and received a Certificate of Completion at Yale University’s Pre-MBA Leadership Program.

Currently, Charmin is the Program Coordinator of the YEP: College Access Now (CAN) Program at TSU through the Center of Service Learning and Civic Engagement. This program is designed to allow students to participate in structured career and post-secondary education awareness opportunities including college preparatory activities, test taking skills development, and other structured activities to prepare them for the world of higher education.

Prior to this position, she served as a Product Assistant at Macy’s Merchandising Group where she was responsible for the product development process and marketing Macy’s Private Brand, Bar III Men’s Sportswear. She also supported the relationship between Macy’s New York and overseas offices in Hong Kong, Bangladesh, India, Korea, and Taiwan.

Charmin loves to support various service endeavors though her affiliation in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, National Urban League Young Professionals, Tennessee State University Alumni Association, Kappa Omicron Nu Honor Society Alumni Association, The Harvey Brooks Foundation, and DESTINED: The Young Adult Collective at First Corinthian Baptist Church. Charmin was born and raised in Joliet, Illinois.

Outstanding Service Award for the University wide Service Learning Day August 24, 2013. Secured twenty-seven project sites throughout Nashville, TN for over 700 TSU students/volunteers to complete four hours of community service.
