Claim To Fame:

One of my biggest claims to fame in college has been being a member of the band. Through band, I have had opportunities that many students only dream about. One of the most unforgettable experiences was traveling to California to perform at the Honda Battle of the Bands Showcase, where I was able to represent my HBCU on a national stage alongside talented musicians from across the country. More recently, I had the opportunity to be involved in work connected to Wanda Sykes' Netflix documentary, which was another incredible experience that allowed me to see how the arts, entertainment, and storytelling can bring people together. These opportunities have allowed me to showcase my talent, represent my school with pride, and create memories that will stay with me long after graduation.

Most Memorable Moment:

Some of my most memorable college moments come from my freshman year as I learned how to navigate college life, gain independence, and build lifelong friendships. Adjusting to a new environment while balancing classes, band, and campus responsibilities was not always easy, especially with residence hall curfews and the challenges that come with being away from home. However, those experiences helped me grow both personally and academically. One tradition that made my freshman year special was taking weekly walks with my friends along the waterfront. We would use that time to debrief about our week, talk through challenges, celebrate accomplishments, and simply enjoy each other's company. Sometimes we would bring food and have a picnic while watching the water, creating a space where we could relax and support one another. Those moments reminded me of the importance of community and friendship during a time of major transition. Band also played a significant role in making my college experience unforgettable. Through band, I had the opportunity to travel, perform, and create memories with people who became like family. Whether it was rehearsing for performances, spending time together after practice, or simply enjoying everyday moments on campus, my freshman year was filled with experiences that helped shape who I am today. Looking back, it is not just the major accomplishments I remember most, but the friendships, personal growth, and small moments that made college feel like home.
