Marcus Matthews is currently the Digital Media Manager for ESPN’s morning sports debate show First Take. He has also served as a Segment Producer on the show. During his time at the World Wide Leader he has been an Associate Producer for Sportscenter, OTL and ESPN News as well as working on the NBA studio project for two seasons including producing at the 2008 NBA Finals. Marcus is also the lead Producer on the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday vignette project for the company.
Marcus was one of the key contributors as a Writer/Producer to the BET Sports Department based in Washington, D.C. Under the direction of Stacey Ward; Executive Producer and Valerie Brown-Sanders; Senior Producer/Managing Editor, Marcus worked for BET for four years until his departure for ESPN in 2005.
Marcus maintained BET's vision to keep sports programming aimed at the 18-25 year old demographic as well as maintained relationships with media contacts, developed show ideas and stayed abreast of media coverage. As a Writer and Producer for the show “MAAD Sports”, Marcus covered such events as the Super Bowl, NBA All-Star Weekend, McDonald’s All-American Game, the Final Four and the NBA Finals.
Prior Marcus joined the staff of USATODAY.com as a Sports Content Developer in 2000.
Marcus joined the staff of City Cable 13/16 in the district area as an On-Air Reporter and Field Producer shortly before graduation in 1998 and after internships at “The George Michael Sports Machine” and WTEM Sports Radio. He left the television world in 1999 to serve as Metro/Sports/Entertainment Reporter for “The Washington Afro-American Newspaper” as well as handle stats for the high school section of the Washington Post.
Marcus graduated from Howard University with a Broadcast Journalism major and minor in Sports Administration. Marcus has been a keynote speaker at Howard University answering questions on the field of journalism and mentoring students who are considering a career in communications.
Marcus also has experience freelancing as a DV Camera Operator and Writer for several publications.
The fight between the football team and New York in Founders Library, Biggie with that mustard leather coat on during homecoming and pulling so many scams to party at Quigley's for FREE.
