(interview me)
Doris Mangrum
CEO/Founder, Self-Employed

Location: Antioch, CA United States

About   (request update)
Doris I. Mangrum is a nationally recognized authority on matters concerning the incarcerated, the formerly incarcerated, veterans, the pangs of separation,
reunification and its collateral impact on families, children and communities. Her conference seminars and motivational speaking expertise are well received throughout the country.

For over twenty-two years, she managed an award-winning family, relationship and life skills program inside the fifth largest correctional facility in the country. The program is one of the longest running of its type.

Her numerous accomplishments include: founder of Saidiana Productions, CEO of Saidiana Works, Inc., and Executive Producer of STAINS: Changing Lives After Incarceration, her award-winning documentary. Doris is a separation and reunification author of several books including After the Bungy Jump . . . There’s Still a Lot of Jerking Goin’ On and A Soiled Identity: From Triumph to Tragedy and Back Again. Her Saidiana FUSE book series includes REENTRY SUCCESSFUL: Surviving it to the Better End, Children of the Incarcerated: Who Will Hear Their Voices, 101 Ways to Help the Incarcerated/ Formerly Incarcerated, and A Guide for Families Dealing with Separation. She has helped design prison ministry programs for faith-based organizations. She is an international editorial columnist; her articles have appeared in newspapers and magazines in California, Texas, Minnesota and Nigeria.

In 2014, Doris was named the first Community Hero by KPFA 94.1 First Voices program. In the book, Beyond Stereotypes in Black and White, written by Dr. Henrie Treadwell, Research Professor, Morehouse School of Medicine, Doris is highlighted as one of the Heroes and Leaders in her field. Her community and fieldwork dealing with the collateral impact of incarceration have been shadowed and reviewed by the wife of the former Chief Secretary of the Treasure of Great Britain, British High Commissioner to South Africa and current member of the House of Lords to establish similar works in Great Britain. In 2014, United States Representative
from California’s 15th District, Congressman Eric Swalwell presented Doris with the American flag flown over the capitol building for her work with veterans and their families.

Doris is involved in numerous community organizations including the Bay Area Business Roundtable, NAACP, Powerful Women International-Connections, Association for the Study of African American Life and History, the National Association of Black Journalists, Richmond Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Emma J. Clark Foundation.

Doris believes that communities must come together for fundamental change or prepare to accept the harm that will be done to the quality of all lives when we refuse to help those who need our support. She firmly believes that working together we can do anything . . . but fail. She is committed to being a part of that context shift.
