Applications are open for the 2017-2018 Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals fellowship program. Conceived and funded by members of the U.S. Congress and the German Bundestag over 30 years ago, CBYX is a reciprocal exchange initiative. American recipients of the CBYX fellowship spend a full year in Germany, including two months of intensive language courses, four months of university classes in their field, and a five-month internship. The program is open to candidates in all career fields.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:

- Broad cultural immersion including intensive language study, exposure to Germany’s higher educational system, and professional work experience in the participant’s field.
- Intensive German language training for the first 8 weeks of the program in Germany. No German language skills required at time of application.
- Federal funding that covers international airfare, a monthly stipend to cover basic living expenses, housing with a German host family or shared apartment, health insurance, and program-related travel within Germany.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates for the Congress-Bundestag fellowship program must meet the following requirements:

- U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Between the ages of 18-24 at the start of the program
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Clear career goals and some relevant work experience
- A strong interest in German and international affairs, a strong sense of American identity
- Flexibility, independence, and a sense of diplomacy
