The Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) is a program under the AAMFT Research and Education Foundation and funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA, under D-HHS). The MFP Program was created to increase the number of culturally competent Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) professionals who provide direct mental health and substance abuse services to underserved and minority populations, conduct research and teach in these areas. To achieve this goal, the MFP offers fellowships for Masters and Doctoral-level students who are pursuing a degree in the field of Marriage and Family Therapy who have a passion and are dedicated to improving the mental health and substance abuse services to ethnic minorities and underserved populations in the US. An MFP Fellowship is a professional training appointment into a community of other students and professionals who hold similar professional interests. Indeed, the MFP provides stipends, or living allowances funded by SAMHSA, to students who hold the fellowships. However, we also facilitate leadership development and provide professional guidance with the aim of deepening the skills sets and knowledge base of the fellows in areas related to minority mental health research and services.

Fellowship Stipends (subject to change based upon SAMHSA Funding):

Doctoral Fellowship Award ~ $19,000
Doctoral Dissertation Completion Fellowship Award ~$10,000
Masters Fellowship Award ~$5,000
