Claim To Fame:
My “claim to fame” in college is my ability to balance multiple responsibilities while remaining determined to achieve my goals. Throughout my college journey, I have worked full-time in higher education while pursuing my degree, managing both professional and academic responsibilities at the same time. Despite challenges, I continued pushing forward and remained committed to completing my education. I am also proud of being a first-generation bachelor’s degree student from a Nigerian household, where education, perseverance, and hard work were always emphasized. My journey has taught me resilience, discipline, and the importance of believing in myself even during difficult seasons. Another part of my college identity has been my involvement in supporting students, coordinating events, and working within student services. Through these experiences, I developed strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills while helping create positive experiences for others on campus. Most importantly, my “claim to fame” is proving to myself and others that it is possible to pursue higher education while balancing work, personal responsibilities, and life challenges. My story is one of persistence, growth, and determination, and I hope it inspires others who may feel like their path is taking longer or looks different than expected.
Most Memorable Moment:
One of my most memorable college experiences at Houston City College has been the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally while working in higher education at the same time. Being able to attend HCC while also supporting students and campus events through my role in Student Services gave me a unique perspective on college life and allowed me to build meaningful connections with staff, students, and leadership across multiple campuses. Some of my favorite memories include helping coordinate student events, graduation-related activities, outreach initiatives, and campus programs that brought students together. Seeing students excited about their futures, registering for classes, attending events, and reaching milestones reminded me why education is so important and motivating. Another memorable part of my journey has been balancing Part-time work while continuing my education. There were many long days, stressful moments, and times I doubted myself, but continuing to push forward taught me resilience and discipline. Every completed semester became a reminder that I was getting one step closer to becoming the first person in my family to earn a bachelor’s degree. I also cherish the friendships, conversations, and support I received throughout my time at HCC. My college experience has not only helped me academically, but it has also shaped my confidence, leadership skills, and future goals.
