Scholarship Essay: Why I Chose to Attend an HBCU

I chose to attend a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) because I wanted to grow in an environment that affirms my identity, challenges me academically, and connects me to a powerful legacy of excellence and resilience. At an HBCU, I am surrounded by faculty, peers, and alumni who understand my background and uplift my potential.

Attending an HBCU has already helped me develop as a leader, scholar, and man of character. Through campus organizations and community service, I’ve learned how to lead with purpose and give back with humility. These experiences are shaping me into a future mechanical engineer who not only solves problems but also inspires change. The support, culture, and mentorship at my HBCU are preparing me to excel in my field while staying true to who I am.
