Sean Mungin is a 3rd generation minister responding to a call from God to reach the lives of those who feel disconnected from the ‘traditional’ church. Sean was born in the small Georgia town of St. Mary’s and was raised in Tallahassee, Florida until the age of 14 when his mother relocated the family back to St. Mary's. He is the fourth child born to Minister Gwendolyn Mungin. Sean began his journey toward ministry at the age of fifteen. However, his first sermon was delivered in 1998 at the 5th Street Church of God in West Palm Beach, Florida under the pastorate of his grandfather, the late Bishop Preston C. Williams.
Sean graduated from the Lee University School of Religion in 2005 with a B. A. in Bible and Theology. He also earned a M. S. degree in Psychology from the University of Phoenix in 2010. Sean has continued his theological education by enrolling in the Mason Kelly Washington Religious Training Institute (COGIC - 3rd Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, Eastern New York) in pursuit of a Masters in Religious Education in the fall of 2012. Sean was officially ordained as a minister in 2009 by the Presiding Bishop of Integrity Fellowship (Toledo, Ohio), Bishop Daniel Johnson. He has served in the roles of Associate Pastor (2000-2002), Youth and Christian Education Director/Youth Pastor (2006-2007) in the Palm Beach area in South Florida. He currently attends Zion Cathedral Church of God in Christ in Freeport, NY.
Sean began the latest leg of his life's journey by relocating to New York in July 2010. He is currently employed with Services For The Underserved, Inc. (S:US)/Department of Veteran Affairs as a HUD-VASH Service Coordinator in New York and has been employed with S:US since relocating to New York. His current position aligns him with previous positions as an individual genuinely concerned about the holistic well-being (spiritual, mental, physical, and socio-economical) of all people.
I hold two and one-half years experience as a program manager in a maternal health education –based non-profit agency. Our target populations were women who were in their prenatal, postnatal, and interconceptional periods. Some of the areas of case management concern were physical health, access to health care providers and resources within the community, and referrals (mental health, substance abuse, nutrition) to outside agencies when necessary.
Within this non-profit setting, I have gained experience in monitoring the quality of service through implementation of necessary QA/QI measures to ensure program success. I successfully managed a staff of nine employees while in this position. During this period, I was also able to help this department successfully transition from a state-mandated corrective action to one of the most successful recoveries in the agency’s 20 + year history.
I have a little over three years of working within the Palm Beach County School Board District in a support position in a special educational setting with elementary-aged students. These classroom environments were established to educate students diagnosed with mental health and developmental concerns. While employed within the school system, I also briefly worked in an alternative school for high school-aged students. After this period, I also worked with adolescents in a juvenile correctional facility as a case manager.
Experience has taught me how to build strong relationships with all departments within an organization as well as outside organizations.
